    • And clean up a street in Kits Point?

Many of you will remember our neighborhood’s participation in Keep Vancouver Spectaculara citywide program held every May where volunteers were issued snazzy yellow vests, sturdy gloves, long-handled pickers and special bags to pick up curbside and sidewalk garbage throughout Kits Point. The City has reopened this program, renaming it the Neighborhood Cleanup Party. We need fifteen volunteers—one person to host the Cleanup Party and as Kits Point has fourteen blocks, a volunteer per block would be ideal.

Here’s the letter the City sent Beryl Lamb, who led the volunteer coordination of this program for years in Kits Point until, as she says, “I aged out.” Thank you Beryl for your years of hosting.

Dear Beryl,

We are very excited to let you know that our Neighbourhood Cleanup Party Program has reopened!

In order for volunteers to maintain physical distancing, we welcome you to register for a cleanup for groups of up to 20 volunteers.  The limit on the number of volunteers will help you, as hosts, to maintain safe physical distancing between volunteers.  For everyone’s health and safety, our staff are also taking extra precautions when delivering and collecting equipment and supplies.  We are able to arrange for you to pick up/drop off equipment at our Marine Gateway office 2 days per week and can also arrange for physically distanced deliveries/pickups to households and businesses.

We have also updated our Safety Protocol  and Host Instructions to include some additional measures that will help reduce the risk of COVID-19 to volunteers.

The City will be hosting our own Neighbourhood Cleanup Party on Sunday, August 23 at Norquay Park.  If you are interested in joining, please sign up using this link.  This event will be limited to 20 volunteers.

We hope that you will once again get involved to help make our City vibrant and clean.  Please register your cleanup on our Neighbourhood Cleanup Party website. We appreciate at least one week notice to be able to provide you with equipment and supplies.

Thank you for your patience in waiting for the Neighbourhood Cleanup Party to reopen and we can’t wait for our volunteers to join us again!

Best regards,

“The amount of garbage on some streets is very upsetting and I try and keep our area clean as I am sure most people do,” says Beryl. Recalling her years of hosting the program, she notes that “Volunteers receive lots of positive feedback from meeting neighbours, making new friends and in just an hour doing something that feels good and makes our beautiful corner of Vancouver look better.”

Would you like to host the Cleanup Party? (We need you to pick up and deliver the supplies to get the party started—while the City hasn’t specified dates, before the end of September seems like a good idea.) Take a look at the easy and clear instructions at Neighbourhood Cleanup Party website.  Hopefully we’ll have fourteen block volunteers as a result of this email. Please reply to info@kpra.ca if you’d like to host or volunteer. We’ll also be putting this on the EVENTS page at our new website (www.kpra.ca).

P.S. For those of you who have already indicated on the KPRA website that you’d like to volunteer, here’s your first opportunity!
