A short but challenging section
- McNicoll from Arbutus to Maple is narrow and uphill
- A path through the park takes away green space and may harm unique chestnut trees
Possible Solutions
Option 1
- Use the most recent base map from VanMap that shows a ROW, easement or former path from Arbutus, through the SE portion of the corner to mid-block on Maple, a parcel not covered by the Hadden Covenant, and follow that pathway biasing to the street side but minimizing close contact with mature trees with an S-shape path
- Ensure construction practices minimize root damage
- Add a protected bike lane using the same construction as proposed for Chestnut and Ogden for the half block from mid-block Maple to the Ogden intersection
Option 2
- Protect the bikeway on the park side of Maple and McNicol using the same construction as proposed for Chestnut and Ogden
- Have City engineering design one-way vehicle flow
- Realize the loss of 22 free parking spots
