Senakw Development – Municipal Services Agreement Now Public

As many of you are aware the Municipal Services Agreement (MSA) entered into between the Squamish First Nation (SFN) and the City of Vancouver became public with its posting first on the website of SFN on July 29, 2022 and then on the City of Vancouver (COV) website.

A licence for the Vanier Park Access Road has been issued

The MSA made it clear that the federal government either had or would soon grant a licence to SFN to use Vanier Park lands for a development access road and sewer works.

KPRA Response

In response KPRA Executive Team wrote to the federal government on August 1, 2022 challenging the right to grant that licence in Vanier Park.

On August 2, 2022 we wrote to Park Board reiterating our concern and asserting our view that Park Board must take steps to challenge this use of park lands. A copy of our correspondence to Park Board is posted .

Since that time we have received confirmation that the licence to use Vanier Park lands for development access road had already been issued on July 28, 2022.

Environmental Review Process is complete

Notice has also been posted on the Government of Canada website of the decision in the Environment Impact Review Process in which we earlier made submission. On July 15, 2022 Indigenous Services Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada, and Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation) determined that the proposed Senakw development is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental impacts and so the project may proceed.
